Fountain pen ink evolved alongside the pens themselves, with early inks used by ancient civilizations based on carbon and dyes. In the 19th century, as fountain pens became popular, specialized inks were developed to prevent clogging. In the 1920s, Pelikan introduced successful water-based inks. Today, fountain pen inks come in various colors and formulas, designed to enhance the writing experience and protect the pen. A fountain pen is only as good as the ink used to transfer ideas to paper.
